Situated in the larger city of Hempstead on Long Island, East Meadow and the surrounding area are home to a variety of museums, shopping, sports venues and outdoor activities. If you enjoy getting outside, you will love the outdoor opportunities in East Meadow, from beaches to golf courses, ice skating to racquet sports and cruises. There are also a number of museums, sports facilities, galleries, and more.
Nearby Hofstra University is home to the Calkins Gallery, David Filderman Gallery, Emily Lowe Gallery, Rochelle & Irwin A. Lowenfeld Hall, and Sculpture Park. There’s also the Hofstra Arboretum which offers a two-acre plot of land that’s a bird sanctuary and serves as an educational prototype for New York State.
Other area attractions include the Women's Sports Foundation, the African American Museum, and Eisenhower Park. Eisenhower Park is widely known as at 930 acres it is larger than Central Park. Much of the area is devoted to three 18-hole golf courses, including the course that hosts the annual Commerce Bank Championship. The park is also home to the September 11th Memorial for residents of Nassau County.
If you like shopping, check out Roosevelt Field Mall or Mall at the Source or any of the many independently owned shops around town. You can also have a fabulous time at Belmont Park, Nassau Coliseum, home of the NHL's New York Islanders, or any of the numerous other sports venues such as Mitchel Athletic Complex.
If you enjoy golf, the East Meadow-Hempstead area is home to three different golf courses as well as mini-golf. These include the town's demanding 9-hole course in Merrick, and the 18-hole Lido Golf Course. There’s also a 9-hole public course called Bay Park Golf Course. All courses are both challenging and scenic.
The area also offers numerous indoor and outdoor ice skating facilities, hiking, biking and walking trails, paddleball, racquetball and tennis courts, parks and beaches.
